Sex Determination of Sea Cucumber Acaudina rosettis from Madura Straits, Indonesia

Acaudina rosettis is one of the commercial sea cucumber species that widely consumed on east coast Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. Although its abundance in nature has begun to show signs decreasing, studies this are still very limited. This study aimed examine indicators can be used determine sex A. individuals. samples were collected from Madura strait mid Hijri month for three months. The then dissected. Body wall without viscera and gonads was weighed. characterized macroscopically microscopically, prepared into histological slides with hematoxylin-eosin staining. results showed could classified groups based type gamete cells observed tubules; male (spermatogenic), female (oogenic), undetermined (no found). Gonads had colors; yellow, pink, orange five stages reproductive phase; gametogenesis (G), mature (M), spawning (S), post-spawning (PS). Male yellow gonads, pink orange, all orange. G M while S PS gonad weight at same phase did not any difference between males females. Based results, color as an indicator determination, but only phases.
